Welcome to the Mercedes Benz B-Class Electric Drive Forum! This forum is dedicated to Mercedes-Benz’s first 100% electric vehicle.
Based on the conventionally powered B-Class, the Electric Drive delivers powerful acceleration while gliding along the road almost silently.
According to Dr. Joachim Schmidt, member of the Mercedes board of management for marketing and sales, “the B-Class Electric Drive meets the wishes of many customers for emission-free driving without foregoing the hallmark attributes of a Mercedes-Benz, namely safety, comfort and, of course, not to forget exhilarating driving pleasure.”
The B-Class EV is powered by a 100 kilowatt electric motor, and electricity is stored in a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack is enclosed in the ‘Energy Space’ under the vehicle subfloor, saving interior space and maximizing safety.
Recharge times vary from overnight on a standard 110-volt outlet, to 60% charge in just 2 hours at 240v/40 A. Mercedes says the driving range is around 115 miles, depending of course on driving style and road conditions.
In the USA, the B-Class will be available exclusively in the electric drive version – in Canada, Mercedes is also introducing the gasoline powered version of the B-Class.
The new 2014 B-Class Electric Drive is set to go on sale sometime in the first quarter of 2014 in the US, and then Mercedes plans to make it available in select European markets later in the year.
