I am about to buy a used 2014 B-Class EV, I will be the second owner and the car only has about 17K mileage. Will Mercedes-Benz company give me the warranty on battery up to 100K or 8 years. Plus, no-cost maintenance and roadside assistance like the new first owner? My next question is would it cost me anything to apply for a new VVC code?

I am living in Texas, USA, thanks.

Benzy,

You should confirm with MB about inheriting the warranty. Per another prospective buyer of a used 2014, he took the car into the local dealer, the tech there could find no record of the annual maintenance being done, so battery warranty was voided.

No chance to port over free maintenance as these were not uniformly offered, IMHO.

As to VVC code, it is not supposed to cost anything but members have run into an attempt by MB dealers to force you to subscribe to Mbrace in order to get. Not true for me for 2014 and 2017 so you should get VVC for free by standing your ground.

By the way, as with all things TX, there may be some regulations that make things different in TX as it relates to autos.

The Mbrace folks at the 1-800 number gave me 90 days of complimentary access after I bought my used 2014 a few weeks ago. Getting the required VVC number from the local dealer was more difficult, as they had no clue how to do it, but I did get one after handing them Google'd instructions to M-B Service Managers.

Whether Mbrace is of any value, I don't know. Remote access via the app appears limited to:

- Locating your car
- Checking the charge state
- Scheduling climate controls to come on at a pre-set time

And it makes me login again each time I access the app. The web page version also has options to check your financing and payments(!).

And I'm not sure the roadside assistance stuff has much value in a car with a working radius of only 35-or so miles.

But I'm a newbie! Maybe someone can tell us more.

Hallcp,

Not that I have ever used but there is the door unlock. Logging in every time is stupid but typical engineer approach to life. I use the EV Access app which is no longer available for Android to get info, monitor charging, without logging in.

Every MB dealer is supposed to have one trained service tech. Being polite is perhaps a southern thing although the team in Manhattan are nice to me. After all, they see me every week when I roll in to charge my B250e.

I just printed the info for the dealer from the link you posted ...

They don't have a clue how to do it because they "never sold them in Washington." Hopefully, it works.
Thanks
Arthur
