Greetings,

I've read here that MB requires "Annual Battery Certification". A condition to maintain the warranty, right?

Should I expect MB to reach out to me, or should I be pro-active and make an appointment with the MB Service folks?

I've had the vehicle since late July 2019, and it was previously on a lease (I think from the same MB dealership) that would have expired in October.
Does this indicate the battery "Anniversary" is October each year?

Peter,

Peter, Peter, Peter,

As some are prone to blurt out, "Cmon man." But seriously, I have never been contacted by the MB dealer about anything. Consider them clueless until proven otherwise. Each year, I have to explain carefully to the Service Advisor what the heck it is, even though it is in the computer records. Sigh.

To answer your question, your purchase date is irrelevant for the annual battery check. Ask your dealer to look up and inform you of the actual date or the last time it was certified. Try to get it in writing. I would not buy a used B250e without an active battery warranty and would have asked dealer to certify active warranty. You don't want to have a problem and then have them tell you oops non active warranty.

OK?

Sigh indeed!

The dealer has no record of me as the owner. This is on the finance guy at the dealership who hasn't/didn't record a transfer of ownership.
We have to go to the MB dealership to correct this blunder.

September 2018. Which means it was not re-certified when I bought the vehicle from them. As a new EV owner, and as a first time MB customer, I obviously didn't know enough to ask the right questions. So thanks to you and others here for guidance.

Further, the dealership says the battery certification expires after sixteen months (not twelve as reported here?) We have an appointment to drop the car off on Nov 30 (when we come back to the USA)

To Be Continued...

Peter,

We're returning to the MB dealer at the end of this month, here's the Appointment Notes:

Confirmation Code: [redacted]
Date and Time: 11/30/2019 10:00 AM
Vehicle: 2017 MERCEDES-BENZ B250E
VIN: [redacted]
Advisor: Alex Truong
Arrangement: Dropping off vehicle at the dealership

Repair Services:
TELL US MORE 1
DUST AND FILTER NEED REPLACEMENT

TELL US MORE 2
BATTERY TEST
Notes:
• APPT OKAY PER FELIX

All well and good! Anyone know more about the Dust and Filter Replacement?
I assume BATTERY TEST is the fabled "Annual Battery Certification" to keep the warranty current?

Thanks In Advance,

Peter,

Peter et al.,

Whew, you are good then as to the battery warranty. Good to know it is every sixteen months for those of us who can remember to do it every 12 months on time.

Yep, thats it, the battery test.

I see from other posts that they may charge you for the desiccant bag. I have a 2017 and they did not charge me last month. Nor did they charge me for the battery test.

They did charge me to replace an "Air Drier" without asking me in advance. The Service Advisor said it was required to maintain my warranty. I decided not to press further but the dang part cost $249.60. The total bill for Service A and B plus the battery test and the desiccant bag replacement was $589.60. Kinda of the going rate for driving into a MB for routine service. BTW, the cost of the Solvent Windshield Washer Fluid was $25.90.

I know this post is a few months old, but for others that may be in the process of purchasing used... it's true that the onus is on us to determine if the annual service has been performed and that the 8-year battery warranty is still in tact. Here was my experience.

I purchased from a Subaru dealership (of all places) in Massachusetts. They obviously had no clue about the warranty or if the requisite annual service had been performed. So I had the vehicle inspected at a nearby Benz dealership. I spoke to the Benz service manager on the phone beforehand and got assurance that they knew what was going on, mainly because he knew what a desiccant bag was. The inspection went smoothly, no problems with the car. But I insisted on getting a 100% confirmation that the annual services had been performed by the previous. The dealership's "warranty specialist" followed up with me 2 days later and confirmed that the car had been serviced annually and gave me those exact dates. I then called MB USA directly to confirm that the 8-year warranty was in tact. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for some sort of written confirmation, but hey.

The inspection at the dealership and the followup from the warranty specialist cost $160 total. Worth it to sleep well at night IMHO.

Congratulations and welcome!

What model year? How many miles? What color?

Did you also purchase a vehicle warranty (in addition to securing the MB High Voltage Battery coverage)?

Peter,

Here's a forum post with all the vehicle specs. http://www.mybclasselectricdrive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1981&p=8611#p8611

My original 4-year warranty is valid for another 4 months. I opted not to purchase the extended warranty. I made the choice after reading one particular post on this forum where it seemed clear that the extension wouldn't cover motor failure, which is the only thing I really care about. Plus, the option of an extended warranty was never offered.

Massachusetts, USA has a clear lemon law that gives you 90 days of protection when buying a vehicle, which also made the decision to buy a little easier.

Gosh, well I hope you're wrong about the warranty thing. I accept that I probably have no battery warranty as the previous owner never did annual service, but I did purchase the Extended Warranty on the rest of the car for the express reason of covering drive train failure (where the motor, not the battery is the problem).

Where did you read that the extended warranty would not cover the drivetrain? Or did I misunderstand your post?

Thanks!

Charles.

I believe it was this post that dissuaded me... http://www.mybclasselectricdrive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1626#p7873
Rereading it now, it seems like it was just an inept salesman that sold an ICE warranty by accident?

Does your extended warranty clearly cover electric components? Now that my interest is piqued, do you mind if I ask about the specifics of your warranty (time/mileage limit, price to buy, etc.)?
