Unfortunately, this lack of a spare is becoming a trend with MB. The CLA is supposed to be an entry car. Wait until these new conquests that are stretching to get into the car find out that a new set of run flat tires will cost $1,200 and only last 20,000 miles. And no one will plug a simple nail hole in a run flat tire even if it never leaked.
.
Then again, the vast majority of drivers today would never touch the spare anyway now that there is roadside assistance.

Roadside assistance will only tow you to the nearest dealer. The dealer will only replace with the exact same tire. Since they're not a tire shop, they may not have it. They will only source with another dealer, not with a tire warehouse. If you get a blowout from a road hazard, you may need to pay. Dealer costs for tires is not the same as what you see in the paper.

So, this situation could ruin a short trip if you're away from home.

Edit: Run flats
