I just got my 2014 B Electric today. I am in southern Oregon so electrical rates are the same 24 hours a day. What do you recommend? I have plenty of space to add a new breaker to my circuit breaker and mount the charger in my garage.

What is the best bang for the buck?

Eric

Welcome to the B class club.

I'm using a JESLA made by quick charge power. If Tony has the JAMP JR available now that is probably a good choice as well. Both are 40A max chargers which is all the charge current the B class can handle. Going above 40a / 10kW that won't have any impact.

Many folks here report good results with the Siemens Versicharge, it is a wall mounted 30A 7kW charger available for under $600 and it has time delay and a few other features.

I wouldn't go below 30A / 7kW, consider that your minimum given the size of the B class battery pack. Clipper Creek also has a reasonably priced 32A charger HCS-40 might be the model of it. I think it is under $700.

Regardless of charger, have your electrician install a 14-50 recepticle off a 50A breaker in your garage in a spot you can reach the cars charge port with 15ft or so of cable.

Yes, I concur... get a 50 amp circuit installed at your charging location with a NEMA 14-50R receptacle. We sell the receptacle here for just $5.99 (cheaper than Home Depot or Lowes):

Thanks--but not relevant to the question. I was asking about what charger people are using.

Lots of folks buy our JESLA 40 amp (9.6kW) J1772 / Type 1 premium portable charging cable works at up to full power on every known J1772 equipped vehicle in the world.

JESLA was designed specifically with the unique 40 amp Tesla onboard charger that is in a Mercedes B-Class ED, Toyota RAV4 EV, and of course Tesla cars, but it also works equally fantastic with cars like the BMW i3, Fiat 500e, Chevy Volt, Kia Soul EV or Nissan LEAF. It is ultra flexible, light weight (only 8 pounds total!), and portable, PLUS it adjusts from 100 to 250 volts and 12 to 40 amps, automatically. You don't have to know anything about electricity and no installation required;

Just Plug-N-Chargetm!!!

JELSA ships with NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 5-15 plugs, a padlock, plus a carrying bag. Additionally, you may want to buy the correct plug for your dryer (handy for visiting friends or relatives at their house) or for motel air conditioners:

*NEMA 5-15 .......Standard Outlet.. 120 V / 12 A...... 1.4 kW
NEMA 5-20 ...... Motel air conditioner 120/16A....... 1.9 kW
NEMA 10-30......Older Dryers...... 240 V / 24 A...... 5.8 kW
NEMA 14-30......Newer Dryers..... 240 V / 24 A...... 5.8 kW
*NEMA 14-50......RV Parks ........... 240 V / 40 A...... 9.6 kW

I added a 50 amp circuit with the Leviton EVSE. Has worked flawlessly for the past 5 months. Don't need a portable EVSE and prefer the nice wall mount.
